I HATE TO TURN UP OUT OF THE RED & BLUE UNINVITED

Hokus Pokus @ Gr_nd Gallery, Berlin, DE

Part of an ongoing series of works exploring perceptual manipulation through simple masks or glasses, “I Hate To Turn Up Out Of The Red And Blue Uninvited” is a live audiovisual installation using old fashioned 3D anaglyph glasses. Considered red and blue, but actually red and cyan (equal parts blue and green), anaglyph glasses work by allowing only red light to pass through to one eye while all other colored light passes through to the other – creating possibilities for two completely separate images to enter each eye. Traditionally this is used to simulate 3D imagery, but in “I Hate To Turn Up Out Of The Red And Blue Uninvited” this technique is used to create dynamic perceptual shifts of real life situations. Bathed in saturated light and synchronized sound, the gallery visitors, their shadows, and the Hokus Pokus exhibition all become a pulsating field of drifting spatial dimensions.
